Getting it right
Who hosts it, and what that changes
A Bengali bou bhaat is hosted by the groom’s family and is a meal before it is a party; the wording is issued in their name. A walima is likewise the groom’s family’s event. A general reception may be hosted jointly.
Getting the host wrong on the card is a real social error, and it is the most common mistake we correct on drafts that families bring us from elsewhere.
When to send it
Three to four weeks ahead is enough for a local reception list. Send it after the ceremony invitation, not with it, so the two do not compete.
If a substantial share of the reception list is colleagues rather than family, keep the card in English and keep the cultural ornament lighter — that is a legitimate design choice, not a compromise.
The head-count problem
Receptions are catered against a head count, and a hundred families replying into a WhatsApp group do not produce one. Put a single name, a single number and a date by which you need to know on the invitation itself — the itinerary card add-on (₹1,200) is the natural place for it, alongside the venue and the timings.
It is the add-on we recommend most often and the one families most often skip and then regret.
